Draw This Again! Meme by GeoCaecias Draw This Again! Meme by GeoCaecias
Last time I finished a drawing of Fakir & Duck was in 2009. :XD: I recently rewatched the Princess Tutu anime and felt inspired to go back and revisit my favorite pairing from the series.

I've come a loooong way in 3 years, it would seem.

Before & After

Thanks. :3

I don't think we really have a sense of how much we improve unless we put old & new next to each other like this. @__@

Yeah, I really used to suck. XD Oh god, I was so bad *sob*

I spent a ton of time on the more recent version trying to make the background look good. Glad it paid off!

well you didn't suck at the first one, it's also nice, but there's no comparative between in and between the new one!^_^

Thanks. :) It's amazing how actually looking at reference pictures improves the appearance of a background.

I haven't gotten to drawing background yet. Still trying to get my crude character designs to be half decent. XD I think I might enjoy practicing landscapes better, I'll try it.

Indeed. :D Although I wonder how much of my improvement had to do with actual skill and how much had to do with willingness to sink time into a single art piece. I probably spent about 3 hours on "before" picture, and that's a generous estimate. It was a low-resolution, low-effort, unreferenced drawing. As for the "after" picture, I spent 3-4 days of on and off work to get it looking like this. I also used many reference pictures for the background.

I dunno, I guess being willing to invest time & do research is a form of progress too. :XD:

More time spent reduces mistakes, leading to more skill. Its certainly something I should invest more of into my own works.

Thanks. :D I never really think about how much I've improved until I do a side-by-side comparison of my new and old work. @__@
